SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 19 – Tyreke Williams sued
City of New York after
spending five months in jail
for allegedly burglarizing an
apartment of which he was a
lawful resident.
On September 9, 2022, U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein
held a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
Williams had
rented a room in 42 West
Fordham Road, Apartment 1, in
The Bronx, from Keiu Vo and
Franklin Vo, who decided to
illegal evict him.
Then they called
the police on him.
The police were shown Williams
keys to the apartment, photo
ID, a 40 inch TV and documents
containing his name, according
to the complaint.
He was
handcuffed, held in custody,
unable to make
bail.
Based on
Brady / Giglio material, he
got out and sued.
On
September 9, Judge Hellerstein
ordered that all discovery
must be completed by December
9, with a status conference
set for January 6, 2023.
The case is
Williams v. City of New York
et al., 20-cv-478
