SDNY COURTHOUSE,
March 7 – Wen Zhang sued Four
Seasons Beauty Spa for not
paying minimum wage or
overtime.
On February 23,
2021 U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge Gregory H. Woods
had a proceeding. Inner City
Press covered it.
But there
were problems with the
interpretation from Chinese:
it could or would not be
performed simultaneous, and
the phone was left open.
Judge Woods
asked what the problem was, as
counsel had asked to withdraw
from the case. Finally he put
that over to February 24,
2021.
Inner City
Press covered that proceeding
as well. Judge Wood said he
would re-do everything. But
that is not possible in real
life. It was said that the
business is $200,000 behind in
rent and about to close up.
On April 28, 2021
Judge Woods held another
conference, and Inner City
Press again covered it. Hang
& Associates had written
in seeking to withdraw as
counsel, citing "substantial
financial hardship" and
claiming withdrawal would "not
disrupt the prosecution of
this suit." Well, the trial
was put off.
Jump cut to March
7, 2022 when plaintiffs'
counsel in a candid public
letter to Judge Woods said the
pro se defendant is only
offering $10,000 when their
demand is $180,000. Docket
158. They want the March 9
settlement conference canceled
"sin die."
The case is Zhang
v. Four Seasons Beauty Spa,
Inc. et al., 18-cv-8259
(Woods)
