SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 25 – Johnathan Garrett was
charged, as a Department of
Corrections officer, with
taking bribed to get
contraband into the Rikers
Island
jail.
On October 25 U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Judge Valerie E. Caproni held
a change of plea proceeding.
Inner City Press covered
it.
Garrett
said he had arranged the
bribes by text message with
people in New York. Judge
Caproni asked about the
interstate aspect.
The Assistant US
Attorney said that the prison
phones had been used, and that
they are routed throught Texas
-- so, instant interstate.
Sentencing was set for
February 28 at 10:30 am.
The case is
US v. Garrett, 21-cr-354
(Caproni)
