SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 17 – Joseph Chambers sued
Instacart for requiring
drivers like him to pay
business expenses in violation
of NY Business Law.
On October
15 U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Edgardo Ramos held a
proceeding. Inner City Press
covered it.
Plaintiffs
counsel explained this was
similar to suits against
Postmates / Uber, but was only
under New York and not Federal
law.
Instacart, going
under its business name
Maplebear, said that Chambers
and other drivers had agreed
to arbitration.
Judge Ramos
set a schedule for Instacart's
motion to compel arbitration,
which is due November 5, with
response due November 29 and
reply December 6.
The case is
Chambers v. Maplebear, Inc.,
21-cv-7114 (Ramos)
