SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 19 – Felipe Chairez was
indicted in July 2019 for
conspiracy to distribution
five kilograms and more of
cocaine.
On April
19, U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Judge John G. Koeltl held
a change of plea proceeding.
Inner City Press covered it.
Chairez is still in detention
and it took some time for the
proceeding to come together.
When it did,
Judge Koeltl said that Chairez
was pleading guilty to a
lesser included charge in
Count 1, and mentioned
supervised
release.
"Could you say
that again?" Chairez said
through the interpreter.
Judge
Koeltl thanked him for asking,
and explained "street time."
The US Attorney's
Office's plea deal, signed by
the defendant on April 15,
stipulates a sentence of 97 to
121 months which, if not
exceeded, precludes more
appeals. The guilty plea was
accepted.
The case is USA
v. Chairez, 19-cr-542 (Koeltl)
