Extradited From Colombia FARC Member El Doctor Asks For Valhalla To Treat Stomach Cancer

By Matthew Russell Lee, Exclusive Patreon
BBC - Decrypt - LightRead - Honduras - Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 27 -- Armando Gomez was indicted in April 2018 for a conspiracy to import into the United States ton quantities of cocaine from Colombia, where he was a member of the FARC.

His nickname in the sealed indictment was "El Doctor."

On February 27, 2020 Armando Gomez was presented in shackles in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Court and assigned a free lawyer. He had been imprisoned in Colombia since 2018, then extradited - hence the sworn-to poverty.

When he was presented, Inner City Press was the only media in the SDNY Mag Court.    His assigned Criminal Justice Act counsel Margaret M. Shalley consented to his detention, and asked SDNY Magistrate Judge to recommend that he remain at the jail in Valhalla in suburban Westchester, where she said El Doctor can get treatment for his stomach cancer.

After the presentment, Assistant US Attorney Jason A. Richman wrote to SDNY District Judge Valerie Caproni requesting a conference on March 5 and an exclusion of time, "as the defendant's co-defendants remain in Colombia pending extradiction." The case is US v. Gomez, 18-cr-262 (Caproni / Cave).
