SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 21 – Jasper Grayson,
jailed for bank fraud, on May
21 asked U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge P. Kevin Castel
to be released to home
confinement amid COVID-19.
The US Attorney's Office
opposed it. The Federal
Defender said, The Bureau of
Prisons has not released Mr.
Grayson because they are short
on staff.
Judge
Castel: Let me hear from the
government.
AUSA Mortazavi:
Administrative delay is not
extraordinary and compelling
circumstances.
Judge
Castel: It might be like, We
have to stop meeting this case
about this case. But this
Court is not going to be part
of allowing this new statute
to become a routine way to
seek transfer to home, when
that's supposed to be up to
BOP... This will be in the
transcript, my request for an
answer from the Office of
Probation for the District of
New Jersey. I'll email them,
if I get the address. Then
let's have a renewed
conference in 2 weeks.
The case is
US v. Grayson, 19-cr-241
(Castel).
