UN GATE, March 31
– In the United Nations from
which Secretary General
Antonio Guterres has banned
Inner City Press 1002 days for
asking about his complicity in
the killing of civilians in
Cameroon, poisoning them in
Haiti with cholera and COVID
in South Sudan, and their mass
imprisonment by China in
Xinjiang, on the morning of
March 31 Inner City Press
wrote to the US Mission to the
UN, at its address in the UN
Blue Book and other
addresses,including the form
on its website, as UN Security
Council president, to ask
questions including about
Cameroon and Honduras, UN
democracy and censorship:
" 1) why has the
US not sought to get a UNSC
meeting about the continued
killing, largely of
Anglophones, in Cameroon, even
an AOB? What is the
Ambassador's thinking?
2) Why did the
Ambassador not, during this
month, circulate any of the
now six letters and C.V. of
candidates to run against SG
Guterres, including mine?
Given that there is no written
requirement of member state
support, why have they not
been circulated? And will USUN
act to ensure that US-based
Inner City Press can return as
a UN resident correspondent,
as it was for ten years before
SG Guterres? See, e.g., this.
3) What is
the USUN / State Department
response to yesterday's SDNY
sentencing of Honduras'
president's brother to life
plus 30 years for
narco-trafficking implicating
the president JOH?
Please confirm receipt, and
here's hoping that at least
the principles of the US First
Amendment will be advanced by
USUN and the Ambassador and
Inner City Press restored to
access to UN briefings."
No answer
- but Ambassador Linda Thomas
- Greenfield took five
questions, three of which were
laden with congratulations. No
questions on anything in
Africa, nor about the UNSG
elections process. We will
report any response - but at
what point does this become
collusion?
Back on
March 1 the Ambassador,
propounding Gumbo Diplomacy,
described a March 11 event on
hunger focused on Yemen and
Ethiopia. Inner City Press
live tweeted, including the
Program of Work here:
South Sudan March 3, Syria 4,
15, etc, Yemen 16, UNAMA 23,
Libya 24, DR Congo March 30.
No #Cameroon, much less
Honduras. No footnotes
We'll have more
on this.
