UN Fleming Launches Verified As Propaganda While Banning Press Which Criticizes UN

By Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - The Source

SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 23 – The United Nations on May 18 bragged about getting media organizations, many of them Chinese government entities, to sign up to issue pro-UN propaganda. Then, relatedly, the UN launched a program to promote their propaganda over others, with the Orwellian name "Verified."

The face of Verified is Melissa Fleming, who has kept critical Inner City Press banned from the UN and now its Chinese Zoom rooms for 690 days, without any appeals right or explanation. Likewise, while justifying this move to spending the global public's money to censor criticism of the UN and of China, Fleming and Guterres have taken the UN entirely elitist, telling people not to believe smaller more independent media.

But Fleming's launch, telling the world to believe the UN, was followed by a UN noon briefing in which the audio, video and even the UN's scripted questions broken down. Video here. Verified, indeed. We'll have more on this.

The former they call the "SDG Media Compact, an alliance of news and entertainment companies convened by the United Nations."     Why would any non-state media sign up in advance to praise an organization it is supposed to be reporting on?

Can any of these 100 media be counted on to report on the UN spreading COVID19 in South Sudan, as it introduced cholera to Haiti? Or to report on Sec-Gen Antonio Guterres' personal financial links to convicted UN briber CEFC China Energy, or sell out of the Uighurs, Hong Kong and Taiwan?

The answer is no. This is a shameful partnership, which any serious media should walk away from or at least, for now, publicly clarify in terms of how it impacts the media's coverage of the UN's under performance in Cameroon, Yemen and elsewere. From today's shameful press release by Melissa Fleming, who has meanwhile banned independent Inner City Press from the UN for 690 days:

“Media play a crucial role in countering misinformation and galvanizing action for a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 crisis based on science, solidarity and our common roadmap, the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Melissa Fleming, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications. “We are proud to have one hundred SDG Media Compact members from across the globe [including] Shanghai Media Group. “It is our sincere wish to work closely with global media organizations to jointly build a community of shared future for mankind," said Chairwoman Jianjun Wang.

"In a digital world full of misinformation and fake news, credibility is vital, and that is what we have greatly gained through our partnership with the SDG Media Compact and the rich editorial content shared," said Maikem Emmanuela Manzie on behalf of Ndefcam radio in Cameroon. “The free flow of information on current issues, especially on COVID-19, has helped in building our stories on how the community can better fight this new virus Asahi Shimbun explained why antagonizing the World Health Organization won’t bring the world closer to containing the virus.

On the socio-economic front, Euronews, in an interview with the UN Secretary-General, called attention to the need for global solidarity for the world to emerge stronger from the crisis. CGTN published a number of pieces calling for debt relief for the poorest nations." And CCTV's James Chau is a WHO "Goodwill Ambassador."

Inner City Press is sure that the UN's Cameroon partner will hold Paul Biay accountable - not. Shameful. Watch this site.
