UN GATE / SDNY,
April 9 –
How much does it mean, Boris
Johnson of the UK which has
long supported and profited
from corrupt oligarchs from
many countries showing up for
a photo op in Kiev? His
Mission to the UN won't even
answer the Press about Ukraine
much less Cameroon.
Amid UN
censorship of Press, on March
31 before the United Kingdom
takes over the UN Security
Security Council presidency
for April Inner City Press
wrote to their Mission and
Ambassador Barbara Woodward
and spokesperson Mungo
Woodifield:
"This is a timely
request that you send Inner
City Press the pass code(s) to
access your UNSC Presidency
press briefing on April 1,
2022. I have questions to ask
on what you will do this month
about the conflicts in
Ukraine, Cameroon, Yemen,
DRC and Libya - and on
recent cases of sexual abuse
and exploitation by UN
peacekeepers on Inner
City Press first reported -
Inner City Press is asking to
be provided with access / the
passwords to your UK mission's
stakeouts and press
conferences this month as UNSC
President.
Given your stated
focus on the rule of law, you
should ensure due process (and
access) for Press covering the
UN. Please note that
Inner City Press and I
participate in the WebEx
briefings of, for example, the
IMF:today March 31, 2022, here
and previously sent
to your mission:
And Oct
19:
As you all have
now moved the Council back
into its Chamber, either way I
would also like to ask you to
instruct MALU / USG-DGC
Fleming to allow me to enter
to cover it, for Inner City
Press. Please
immediately confirm receipt,
and provide the passcode or
state why not. Thank you
in advance Matthew
Russell Lee, Esq., Inner City
Press Past (and future?)
Office at UN: Room S-303, UN
HQ, NY NY 10017."
Five days
later, nothing at all. So
Inner City Press asked more,
in an email to Mungo
Woodifield.
Jaclyn Licht, Sorcha Lowry,
Isabella Olex and Barbara
Woodward:
"With no
response from any of you to
Inner City Press' request for
WebEx access to ask questions
of Ambassador Woodward -
despite Inner City Press
actively reporting on the work
on the UNSC, with three
stories this weekend alone -
this request is hereby
reiterated before 1 pm as well
as this request on deadline
for your / Ambassador
Woodward's answer to these
questions put to UN
Spokesperson: On Burma,
immediately explained why SG
Guterres' rep Heyser has again
said that Aung Hlaing should
be spoken with, triggering
outrage against her (and
Guterres) by many Burmese.
On Nigeria
what are the comments and
actions if any of SG Guterres
and separately DSG Amina J.
Mohammad on that a Nigerian
atheist accused of blasphemy
against Islam has appeared at
a high court in the northern
Nigerian state of Kano.
On China,
what are the comments and
actions if any of SG Guterres
and separately USG Fleming on
that CGTN Australian
journalist Cheng Lei is on
trial in China for allegedly
leaking Chinese state
secrets
On Haiti, on
which the IMF spokesperson
answered Inner City Press by
WebEx on March 31, 2022 (while
each of you refuse WebEx
access to Inner City Press to
ask these questions, and
answer none of them), on
deadline what are the comments
and actions if any of SG
Guterres on that One day
after at least one person was
killed and two planes were set
ablaze during widespread
demonstrations across Haiti,
the southern region’s police
chief has been replaced." And
Ukraine - no answers.
Then a pathetic
Press-less press conference,
live tweeted here.
