UNFPA Kanem Wasteful Panama Confab Under Fire Like SG Guterres Corruption for Portugal

By Matthew Russell Lee, Exclusive Patreon
BBC - Guardian UK - Honduras - CJR - PFT

UN GATE, June 14 – In the UN system run by Antonio Guterres, a fish rots from the head. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Guterres dozens of times flew to his real home in Lisbon, with UN Security, without ever disclosing the costs or even the trips.   Now his head of UNFPA, the UN Population Fund, Natalia Kanem is under fire. Inner City Press first reported this on May 7, and a section on May 17. Now this third exclusive.

Kanem wildly overspent, before Nairobi, as a confab in her Panama, a "global meeting of UNFPA, not a rationale decision, very expensive as participants have to travel in business class (with a minimum of 3 flights for many). 200 pax in a very expensive country, home of the UNFPA Executive Director. How was this decision was taken? No cost analysis was made to select Panama."

It's like Guterres doling out UN money to his Portugal, and hobnobbing with Vitorino of IOM.  It is corrupt.

During the Nairobi summit of UNFP a $2.5 million contract was awarded to Media Edge. It flouted process of managing the contract and making payments without commensurate results as UNFPA Representatives around the world have to use their personal credit cards to pay hotels and transportation for their ministerial delegations.   With Media Edge, the Contract included logistical organization, hotels booking and payments; registration of guests, airport pick up; protocols and seating arrangements, which was poorly managed. Purchase orders was signed by whom? - Why payments were made despite poor accountability.

Son, sister and personal friends of Executive Director have participated in Nairobi at UNFPA costs. Private parties organized at Kempinsky with family and friends with renowned artists [will they return the money?]  Invoice of the cocktail organized by media edge in Nairobi amounted $200,000. Nairobi was a Violations of UNFPA internal control framework

Inner City Press is informed that in the UN - or really, on Zoom - African ambassadors have been discussing this and the other dissatisfactions with Guterres. (One would hope that Guterres and David Shearer killing Africans in South Sudan with lax COVID-19 practices they try to cover up by banning the Press and its questions will also draw final action on Guterres).

Sources tell Inner City Press the initial demand to Guterres is that the investigation/audit should also focus on the Nairobi Summit (where a cocktail party worth of $200,000 was organized) and where there is a strong suspicion of nepotism as the son and members of the family of the Executive Director and many personal friends participated (at the Summit) at the cost of UNFPA.

Guterres is so corrupt that his spokesman Stephane Dujarric and his screener Florencia Soto Nino block Inner City Press on WhatsApp, and have now apparently directed UNTV (under Melissa Fleming) to not provide video of his Zoom "briefings" with sychopants, state media and retirees. (This while the IMF, for example, made Inner City Press its first questioner at this briefing on May 7, on transparency). So we publish this exclusive, and we will have more. Watch this site.
