UN GATE, Sept 14
– In the United Nations, a
list of speakers for the UN
General Assembly week Sept
22-29 has been released, photo
here.
On
September 14, the day before
Volkan Bozkir takes over as
President of the General
Assembly, Inner City Press
wrote to his spokesperson
Brenden Varma "to request the
password(s) to access and ask
a question at the September 15
press conference by PGA Vulkan
Bozkir. As you know, I report
about the UN for Inner City
Press; I am accredited to
cover the IMF (to which I
asked WebEx questions last
week and got answers, on
Belarus, Cameroon, Kenya and
Honduras), am in-house press
at the SDNY Federal
courthouse, and am allowed to
ask questions to WHO. There is
no reason I should not be
permitted to pose questions to
PGA Bozkir."
Varma
replied, "This will be my
first hybrid press conference,
and I’m not sure how virtual
access works. Please follow up
with MALU."
But MALU, the Media
Accreditation and Liaison Unit
run by Melissa Fleming, has
not responded to Inner City
Press' September 5 application
for access, of which MALU auto
confirmed receipt. Inner City
Press has shown this to Varma,
along with this: "The PGA
should not hide behind the
Secretary General on who gets
access to the PGA's press
conferences.... as a US
analogy: the president /
speaker in Congress, say for
example Nancy Pelosi, would
not and should not defer to
the White House on which press
gets access to enter and ask
questions at Congress members'
briefings. This holds true for
tomorrow's presser, and UNGA
75 / 2020." We'll have more on
this. Watch this site.
Most
resident correspondents write
nothing, or only propaganda.
And who will decide on these
"very limited non-resident"
[sic] who will be allowed in?
This is the beginning of a
series. Thread
here.
In the
first morning there are China
and Russia, Qatar, Morocco and
Iran. Cameroon's Paul
Biya is on Friday
September 24. Watch this site.
