SDNY COURT / NYC,
April 23 –
At the IMF / World Bank Spring
Meeting, the finance minister
of Malawi Sosten Alfred
Gwengwe was present. He spoke
about China's participation in
his country's economy and
private sector, as did other
ministers on the panel.
But it is
reported that at least two
Chinese companies on the World
Bank's own corruption black
list continue to get large
contracts from the Malawi
government: China Geo
Engineering Corporation and
China State Construction
Engineering Corporations, with
recent contacts for water and
road work.
Previously
the minister of finance of
Malawi was arrested for
reporting falsified data to
the IMF, and for
irregularities in the
privatization of Malawi
Savings Bank.
But did the use
of Chinese firms on the World
Bank's fraud blacklist come up
at the meetings? Inner City
Press is asking. Watch this
site.
