CENTRE ST,
Feb 3 – A man is still on
trial for a murder committed
on 152nd Street near St.
Nicholas Avenue in Harlem on
March 7, 2023, before NYS
Justice Gregory Carro, whom
Inner City Press has
previously covered in the
Luigi Mangione case he also
presides over.
On
February 3, the case was
coming to an end, with jury
notes.
Back on January
22, Inner City Press live
tweeted:
NYPD Detective
Garcia on the stand.
ADA: Did you go
to 453 West 152?
Garcia: I
did. [The murder occurred on
March 7, 2023 - defendant was
arrested on Sept 5, 2023].
Cross examination
Defense: You didn't know who
the suspect was - but you
tracked a person? Garcia: Yes
Next
witness is Sgt Tyler Morales;
his body-worn camera video is
shown.
Defense: The
female you spoke with in the
building, she said she had
only been in that apartment
twice? Morales: Correct.
The female
referred to was Raquel, whose
testimony the jury requested a
read-back of on February 3.
Thread:
Justice Carro:
The jurors have sent out
another note. They want a
read-back of Raquel's
testimony, both direct and
cross, about when she was in
the apartment [the scene of
the crime]. If the parties can
work out which parts to
read.... [Lawyers confer]
Justice
Carro is back,mony read to
jurors. Q: Do you know who
live there with him? A (of
Raquel) He said he had two
roommates, one was not there
Q: What time did you get
there? Raquel: Early
afternoon. A: Before the
altercation and death of your
friend? Yes
Q: That evening,
what happened? Raquel: I was
sweating, I asked him if could
take a shower. I asked if I
could have something to drink.
There was a bottle of soda. I
was straightening my hair. The
defendant asked me if I had
touched the soda in the
fridge.
Raquel: I
apologized but he huffed and
puffed and walked away. He was
upset. I ran and told A.G. I
though it was his roommate's
soda. I was going to replace
it. A.G. said no, he owes me
$500 in rent and he's bitching
about a soda? He shut the
door. Then I heard
Raquel: I heard a
knock, then I heard someone
open, they both said, What's
up. A.G. was like, Yo my
[N-word] you own me $500.
Then, you just mad I get mad
bitches. The defendant said,
You think I'm pussy? Q: Who
said mad bitches? Raquel: A.G.
Q: Can you see
the defendant? Raquel: Yes
Indicating the defendant.
Raquel: A.G. was going off and
him. Then it sounded like
someone struggling to get by
someone. I heard the door
slam. Q: What did you think
that was? Raquel: I thought AG
went to get soda
Rachel: A
minute later I heard someone
gasping for air. Q: Then
what? Rachel: I saw a leg - I
saw it was my friend laying
there. I screamed A.G. I saw
blood. I figured he was
stabbed. I called the
ambulance. Q: Did you
ever see the other roommate?
Raquel: Never
While
lawyers before
Justice Carro
decided on
read-back,
Inner City
Press went to
cover
another murder
trial, down
the hall
before Justice
Newbauer - a
man stabbed to
death in
Washington
Square Park at
4:30 in the
afternoon.
