Jury Asks for Bullets in 2021 Murder as Defendant Asks for Altoids in 111 Centre Street

by Matthew & Russell Lee, Patreon Substack

100 CENTRE, April 23 – For a shooting death in Manhattan's Kips Bay in June 2021, a man has been detained since September of that year and on trial for weeks in 111 Centre Street. On April 23, Justice Marisol Martinez Alonso was fielding notes from the jury, putting her black judicial robe back on when she called them in. Inner City Press was there, in the small courtroom, and live tweeted:

Jury has asked to see bullets. Judge Alonso: While my officer was showing the bullets, some live, deliberations stopped. Now we have another note...

Assistant DA: Are they asking for a photo? Or the bullets themselves?  Defense: Maybe they want the Medical Examiner's photos  Judge: They say they want 38-C  ADA: That's part of the ballistics evidence.

Judge: What is 38-E? Defense: Bullet from the deceased.   Judge: We need clarification from the jury on this note. We'll have to bring them back in [Judge puts black robe back on]  Jury entering!

Judge: You wrote, you want the video on 26 Street with the muzzle flash. You got it? [Jurors nod]

Judge: At 4:19 you asked for two photos. You may have the numbers wrong. Write us another note.  [Jurors leave]

After they left, the defendant asked - politely - from one of the Altoid mints the law clerk was eating. He gave one; a court officer said, Don't, what if he chokes? The law clerk deadpanned: Please don't choke. It's a nice courtroom.

  Deliberations continue on April 27.
