SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Dec 19 – A defendant was found
with drugs inside the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
courthouse at 500 Pearl Street
back on May 9, 2024. Inner
City Press exclusively
reported it, and now covers
the defendant's application
for release on February 5,
2025 before SDNY Judge Mary
Kay Vyskocil.
In the
docket is a photo of the
drugs, and an email from the
US Marshals to the
prosecutors, about "a male on
the first floor of Daniel
Patrick Moynihan Courthouse
near the Visitor Pavillion."
Found were a white powder, as
well as "twelve Sublingual
Film packages labeled
Buprenorphine and
Naloxone."
He was handcuffed, taken to
the fourth floor USMS
cellblock, then to P3 for
transport to detention.
On
February 4 his CJA lawyer
sought release on bond. The US
opposed, alleging that he had
tried to take drugs into the
jail.
Jump cut to
November 10, when for a
November 24 sentencing Ramos'
lawyer asked for 15 months,
below the 27 months
recommended by Probation.
On December 19
Inner City Press attended the
sentencing. Ramos said he is
tired and ready for a new
life. Judge Vyskocil said she
had noticed he had changed;
she sentenced him to 30
months.
The case is
US v. Ramos, 1:23-cr-554
(Vyskocil)
