For Forcount Scam Hernandez Gets 30 Months Amid Talk of Mexico Digs Crypto Death Spiral

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Jan 27 – For the Forcount cryptocurrency scam, on January 27 Antonia Perez Hernandez was up for sentencing before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Analisa Torres. Inner City Press was there, thread: Tacuri got 20 years; now prosecutor has handed up a new police report.

All rise! Judge: Government?

AUSA: They will try to distinguish Mr. Tacuri, but Ms. Hernandez from 2015 onward she was involved in different crypto scms like Airbit, BTC Global, Forcount, PayMoney (Carmona) and MoonVest...

AUSA: Ms. Hernandez, when complained to, told victims to come to the next scheme. Some victims in this room confronted her at the airport - so she deleted everything on her phone. The victims were terrified - many were undocumented, with the new Administration

[Note: While Hernandez is not currently in detention, two US Marshals have just come in from the holding cell and sit behind her. Is instant remand to prison on the table?]

Victim via Teams, "maximum of 3 minutes" - connection problems-   Victim in wheelchair: She bragged she is building apartments in Mexico, after defrauding up at LaGuardia airport. How is this possible? Defense lawyer: Yes, she pled guilty -

Judge: Are you saying she's a cooperator?
Defense lawyer: She would have been willing

Defense lawyer: There wasn't an opportunity to sit down formally and do that, but there wasn't a chance. She has deep regret. She obtained legal permanent residence status in the US. She is in a normal relationship now, he's here. She has diabetes and asthma  Antonia Perez Hernadez: I apologize to those who lost money.

Judge: The guideline is 30 to 37 months in prison. Probation and the US Attorney's Office recommend 30 months. Ms. Hernandez sold valueless coins. There is some evidence she's done it since Judge: A victim in this case lost her retirement savings, and her marriage. The Forcount founder appears to be in custody in Brazil. Ms. Hernandez please rise... You are sentenced to 30 months in prison.

The overall case is USA v. Da Silva, 22-cr-622 (Torres)
