COURTHOUSE,
Jan 6 – A man the US says has
an open investigation for a
murder ten years ago in Guyana
has been detailed by ICE, and
filed a habeas corpus petition
in the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York, which Inner City Press
closely covers.
On
January 6 SDNY Judge Vernon S.
Broderick will hold a hearing,
after putting questions to the
parties.
The US submitted
emails with Guyana officials -
the Treaty Officer of the
Ministry of Home Affairs -
about asking for
extradition.
On January 6
Inner City Press went to his
hearing. He had a dozen
supporters in the courtroom.
His lawyer said despite the
previous day's letter from
Guyana, the Commissioner of
Police there Clifton Hicken no
longer views Oja as a person
of interest.
The AUSA
said this is getting too far
afield. Judge Broderick did
not decide - we will stay on
the case(s).
The case is Oja
v. Genalo, et al.,
1:25-cv-10215 (Broderick)
