SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Oct 30 - In the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
on January 20, a sentencing
was held by District Judge
Valerie E. Caproni on a man
involved in a cocaine deals
with the FARC in Colombia.
The
defendant Armando Gomez was
asked to speak for himself,
just prior to sentence being
imposed. He spoke at length,
about a book he says he is
writing entitled, I Love My
Friend Jesus.
He added that he
did not mean FARC military
commander Jesus Santrich.
There were
not other journalists in the
courtroom but there was
another lawyer, apparently for
a co-defendant in the case,
taking notes.
Judge Caproni imposed a
sentence of 120 months, to be
followed by deportation - with
Supervised Release imposed in
case deportation did not
happen.
The
defense lawyer asked for
designation in Colorado or
near Atlanta. Judge Caproni
said she would recommend it.
