Man from Belarus Detained by ICE Filed Habeas Now US Files RAP Sheet on DV

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 11 –A man from Belarus who convinced an immigration judge in September that he cannot be removed to Belarus because of torture remains detained by ICE.

He filed a habeas corpus petition in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, where Inner City Press found it.

The petition included an email, "As ERO filed a case appeal with the BIA of the IJ's decision, your client will remain detained pending the outcome."

The SDNY case was assigned to Judge Vernon S. Broderick, who asked the parties for papers on February 1.

The US Attorney's Office wrote in with a RAP sheet referring to domestic violence, "convicted upon plea of guilty."

The case is A.H. v. Arteta, et al., 1:26-cv-869 (Broderick).
