SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Feb 12 – The former
commanding officer of NYPD's
school safety unit was
arrested for bribery on
February 12 and arraigned
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge
Katharine H. Parker. Inner
City Press was there, the only
media in the SDNY Mag Court,
and live tweeted:
3:09 pm All rise!
Deputy: This is US v. Kevin
Taylor. Magistrate Judge
Katharine H. Parker: When was
he arrested?
AUSA: 6:25 am.
This is arraignment too.
Judge: You have the right to
remain silent. You have the
right to be released until
there are no conditions
Judge: Since July
2023 to Feb 2024 you are
accused of soliciting and
accepting bribes. Count 1,
Conspiracy to commit honest
services wire fraud. Count 2:
Honest services wire fraud.
Count 3: bribery conspiracy.
Count 4: Bribery. Also
extortion under color of right
Judge: Mr.
Langone, have you reviewed the
charges with your client?
Langone: Yes, he pleads not
guilty.
AUSA: We have a
joint package of conditions
for release: $600,000 personal
bond, secured by residence in
Yonkers, 2 co-signers. He has
no guns
AUSA: No
contact with co-defendant Geno
Roefaro, nor with NYPD
Official-1, SSD Assistant,
Individuals 1 and 2 and the
identified female
companions...
Defense
lawyer Langone: We might have
joint defense agreements with
the co-defendant, with counsel
present. AUSA: Fine. Langone:
He purchased a home in
Kissimmee, Florida and wants
to travel there without having
to check. AUSA: You must check
with the court & PTS
Langone: He is a
long time police official, he
protected children. He
shouldn't have to write to the
judge to travel to Florida.
Judge: But it's a rental
property. Langone: He has to
go there sometimes. Judge: If
there's no problem with
compliance...
Magistrate
Judge Parker: Has the District
Judge set a date? AUSA: Judge
Broderick [as we predicted
above] is on trial until March
Judge Parker: Control date
March 6, time excluded
