SDNY COURTHOUSE,
May 1 – Hipolito Thomas was
sentenced in 2014 to time
served (426 days) for
distributing crack cocaine, a
felony.
On
September 12, 2020 there was a
shooting near 206 Willis
Avenue in The Bronx. Thomas
was arrested as a felon in
possession of ammunition. He
has been in the Essex County
Jail since.
On October 20
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge J. Paul Oetken held an
arraignment for Thomas. Inner
City Press covered
it.
The Assistant US
Attorney described discovery
as consisting of video, social
media, and an "attempted
post-arrest interview."
Thomas pled
guilty on July 14, 2021, and
on November 30, 2021 he was
sentenced to 32 months.
That
case is US v.
Thomas,
20-cr-516
(Oetken)
Jump cut to April
21, 2023. Inner City Press was
covering the SDNY Magistrates
Court when Hipolito Thomas was
brought in - he is charged
with firing a gun, again, this
time on March 4, 2023. He was
detained.
On May 1, 2024,
Thomas' lawyer submitted a
sentencing memo asking for 37
months, saying it had been a
disagreement about sandwich
price ($7 each), not an
attempt to obtain property.
On May 14, Thomas
got 71 months and three years
of supervised release.
This new case is
US v. Thomas, 23-cr-162
(Rochon)
