Teen from Guatemala Detained by ICE Had Transfer Postponed Now Q of Arrest and Amendment

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 22 – A 19-year-old from Guatemala detained by ICE in the Orange County Correctional Facility filed a habeas corpus petition in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Sunday, July 19, where Inner City Press found it.

The petition says that on the morning of Saturday, July 18, 2026, officers told him he would be move to another facility that day. "A storm that day appears to have postposted the transfer" until at least July 20.

The habeas petition was filed on Sunday July 19 at 9:17 pm - establishing venue - and was assigned to Judge Vernon S. Broderick, who ordered that the petitioner not be moved out of SDNY, EDNY or DNJ without further order of the Court..

On July 22 Judge Broderick held a proceeding and Inner City Press tweeted it:

Judge: Was he released on the state matter? [Petition Para 21: NYPL 130.30(1) and 260.10 stemming from a January 30, 2026 arrest]

Petitioner's counsel: Some sort of supervised release. We may amend the petition next week

The case is Gonzalez Raymundo v. Mullin, et al., 1:26-cv-6104 (Broderick)
