SDNY COURTHOUSE,
April 25 – Dariel Lopez was
sentenced to five years in
prison on 2018, for
involvement in a conspiracy to
import narcotics to the US
from the Dominican Republic.
On April
24, 2023 U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Magistrate Judge Ona
T. Wang held a violation of
supervised release proceeding.
Inner City Press was
there.
The
Assistant US Attorney said
this was Lopez' second time.
But the CJA lawyer on duty
said the first imposition of
GPS monitoring had been in
connection with Lopez'
compassionate release amid
COVID.
The lawyer who
won him that had since
formally withdrawn from the
case.
Judge Wang
said there was not reason to
believe that GPS in this
instance would not reasonable
ensure Lopez' return to court.
She released him on $25,000
unsecured bond.
His case has been
reassigned to District Judge
Jesse M. Furman, who had yet
to set a conference
date.
The case is US v.
Lopez, 17-cr-204
(Furman)
