Bronx Man Who Fired Gun on Melrose Av Gets 10 More Years in Jail Doctor Report Sealed

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Oct 8 – A 38-year old man was arrested for firing a gun on 157th Street and Melrose Avenue in The Bronx, three months after he got out of prison on a sentence for drug dealing.

On October 8 he was up for sentencing before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Valerie E. Caproni. Inner City Press was there, as were a dozen of the defendant's family members and supporters.

Citing a fight in the MDC with sharpened weapons in September, Judge Caproni had put the parties on notice she might vary above the sentencing guidelines.

The US Attorney's Office said to stay within the guidelines, perhaps to avoid an appeal.

But Judge Caproni said shooting a gun on the street could kill a bystander. She imposed a ten year sentence.
