SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
March 9 –A man from Mauritania
who entered the US without
inspection in last 2023 was
detained by ICE on March 9
during an immigration hearing.
The same day he
filed a habeas corpus petition
in the US District Court for
the Southern District of New
York, where Inner City Press
found it.
The petition says
he was fleeing oppression and
seeking safety.
The case
was assigned to District Judge
Jesse M. Furman who held a
telephonic hearing and that
same day ruled that "in light
of Respondent's concessions
(even that 'reserve[d] all
right, including the right to
appeal') that Respondents
shall release Petitioner and
file certification thereof by
10 pm.
This case is Aly
v Almodovar, et al.,
1:26-cv-1907 (Furman)
