Felon With DNA On Gun in Car Fake Speaker Detained in SDNY Now Oct 13 Trial Date

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 20 –A defendant charged weapons possession as a felon - a gun with this DNA on it was found in a fake speaker in his car - was arraigned on May 19 by U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Judge Robert W. Lehrburger. Inner City Press was there, in the back row.

The AUSA described previous crimes in The Bronx. The Federal Defender said she client had moved from The Bronx to Queens and that he should be released on bond. She said he is taking classes like carpentry, and takes his children fishing.

The AUSA said, If you are going to release him, have it be home incarceration and not just home detention (which allows a defendant to go out to work).

But Judge Lehrburger ordered the defendant detained, while specifically praising the Federal Defenders efforts.

On May 20 Andrews was brought before District Judge Denise L. Cote, who set a trial date: October 13. The Federal Defender said she may return with a motion for bail.

The case is USA v. Andrews, 1:26-cr-180 (Cote)
