COURTHOUSE,
March 24 – A man from Yemen
running a grocery store in
Harlem pled guilty on March 24
to accepting SNAP food stamp
benefits for cigarettes and
even cash, making a profit on
each transaction.
He reported
told an employee to do the
fraudulent SNAP transactions
or "get a new job."
The guilty plea
was before U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Judge Valerie E.
Caproni. Inner City Press was
there.
Judge
Caproni asked the defendant if
he was naturalized and when. A
long time ago, he said. She
asked if the store was in The
Bronx. Manhattan, the
defendant said. 60 St.
Nicholas.
He waived
his appeal right as to any
sentence 46 months or below.
The case
is USA v. Saif, 1:25-cr-278
