SDNY COURTHOUSE,
June 10 – Tito Llanes is
incarcerated for selling crack
in East Harlem.
On July 15 he and
his lawyer argued for
compassionate release amid the
Coronavirus pandemic, before
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Andrew L. Carter. Inner
City Press covered it.
Assistant
US Attorney Christopher Clore
emphasized that the Bureau of
Prisons denied Llanes' request
in a single day, that his was
not the type of case referred
to by the Attorney General as
militating for release.
Llanes'
lawyer Womble disagreed, but
to no avail. Release was
denied.
Jump cut nearly
four years later, on June 10,
2024 co-defendant Dylan
Williams was brought into SDNY
Magistrates Court, from Rikers
Island. Inner City Press was
there. While the US Attorney's
Office agreed to release on
$25,000 bond, Probation
recommended detention. Thread:
Probation: He's
been on supervision only a
year, and he's been arrested
twice. His adjustment is poor
Probation: Our
concern is, I'd visit him on
148th Street but we was rarely
there, only when I gave a
heads up. We think detention
is appropriate at this time.
Judge: I'll give warnings and
ask him to call me. Probation:
Can we verify his address?
Judge: And detain
him until then? Probation:
Yes. CJA defense lawyer: I
understand he can stay there.
Judge: I am
prepared to release you today.
Speak to me by phone. If you
violate my condition you'll be
sent to the MDC, not Rikers.
A Violation of
Supervised Release Hearing is
set for June 27, 2024, at
12:30 p.m.
The case is US v.
Williams, 18-cr-420 (Carter /
Cave)
