SDNY
COURT
EXCLUSIVE,
Oct 2 – Dewayne
Barrett was charged with
international doping in
connection with the 2020 Tokyo
Olympics. On December 15 he
was brought before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang.
Inner City Press
was there, the only media in
the SDNY Mag Court. It noted
there is or was a Jamaican
sprinter by the name Dewayne
Barrett. But the indictment is
bare-bones.
Barrett's
father was in the gallery.
Barrett was ordered released;
his indicted case has been
assigned to District Judge
Rochon.
Jump cut to
December 23, 2024 when
Barrett's Federal Defender
filed arguing that RADA
unconstitutionally delegates
Congress' legislative
authority to WADA, and the
Barrett is an athlete to whom
the law does not apply.
On February 3,
Judge Rochon denied the motion
to dismiss Count 1 while
granting his request to sever
Counts 1 and 2 from Count 3
for purposes of trial.
On April 23
co-defendant O'Neil Wright
pled guilty to Count 2 with
sentencing set for July 30.
On May 21,
Barrett pled guilty: as to
Dewayne Barrett, Defendant
arraigned on information,
waived indictment, withdrew
plea of not guilty and entered
a plea of guilty to Count 1 of
the First Superseding
Information.
Meanwhile,
Wright's sentencing was pushed
back twice, more recently to
October 21, 2025.
On September 25
Barrett's Federal Defender
wrote in asking for probation
on October 7.
On October 2 the
US Attorney's Office wrote in
asking for 27 months.
The case
is USA v. Barrett, et al.,
1:23-cr-623 (Rochon)
