Man from Georgia Who Entered US in 2024 Detained by ICE in 26 Fed so Files Habeas

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Jan 27 –A man who left the country of Georgia on March 17, 2024 and entered the US without inspection at Otay Mesa, California on April 3, 2024 was detained by ICE in 26 Federal Plaza on January 28.

That same day he filed a habeas corpus petition in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, where Inner City Press found it.

The petition says he was born in Georgia in 1987. On October 27 he was arrested after appearing voluntarily at the ICE Field Office in 26 Federal Plaza and was taken into custody without prior notice, written explanation or individualized custody assessment.

The case was assigned to District Judge Ronnie Abrams, who ordered that petition not be removed from SDNY, EDNY or DNJ without her approval, with a status conference set for February 5 at 10:45..  It is Butiashvili v. Arteta, et al., 1:26-cv-746 (Abrams)
