Kingdom of Thailand is Sued in SDNY After Doorman Physically Attacked at Mission to UN

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, July 27 – A doorman at the Thai Mission to the UN has sued the Kingdom of Thailand for injuries suffered when attacked at the Mission on June 11, 2025 when "an unknown third-party individual approached and remained in front of the Permanent Mission premises and launched a violent, unprovoked physical attack."

The complaint, which Inner City Press found in the docket of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York says that while the Mission had live internal security monitors, it feels to monitor the feeds and failed to intervene.

It says this lawsuit is not blocked by the immunity cited by other Missions, and by the UN itself, including on issues of press freedom.

This case is Valiente v. Kingdom of Thailand, et al., 1:26-cv-6379 (Unassigned)
