After NYCHA Extortion Take Down Rosa Pled Out $6000 Now Gets 12 Months at Home

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 19 – For days Inner City Press had heard from its sources there would be a "takedown" on February 6, each SDNY Magistrate Judge would handle seven to 10 defendants.

Arrests happen at 6 am. So at 5:55 am Inner City Press tweeted it, first to X subscribers with the spoiler alert: the expectation was that each of the current or former NYCHA employees would be released on bond the same day.

And then hours later at 9:39 am the prosecutors announced it. Media rushed around reporting it.  Inner City Press had it first, and after discretely waiting, published it first. Then this thread of presentments, here.

On June 5, a guilty plea, by Herbert Rosa for taking $6000 in bribes for no-bid contracts worth $50,000. On June 8 District Judge P. Kevin Castel approved the plea and set sentencing.

Inner City Press went, on November 19. Thread:

On March 19, another guilty plea, by Victor De Los Santos, for taking $35,000 in bribes for no-bid contracts worth $280,000.

On October 2, the US Attorney's Office wrote in asking for 18 months on October 23.

On October 23, Inner City Press went - thread:

Rosa: I worked at Housing for 25 years. This is all I got. I'm sorry.

AUSA: He took $6000 in bribes, for contracts worth $50,000. It's about abuse of trust.

Judge: He was a caretaker at NYCHA's Lehman Village. He is experiencing depression. I agree with Judge Oetken this conduct creates cynicism, there are real victims. I sentence Mr. Rosa to 3 years probation with 12 months home confinement...

After that, Rosa's counsel asked if, beyond work and medical and religion, Rosa could leave home for his dogs. Judge Castel said, If home confinement doesn't work... Whereupon the request was withdrawn and a family member in the gallery nodded that the dogs could be taken care of. Rosa in janitor for a floor in MetroTech, IRS offices...

The case is US v. Rosa, 24-cr-359 (Castel)
