Rikers Withdraws Bid to Change
Lawyers for June 4 Trial

COURTHOUSE,
March 6 – A man
transferred from Rikers Island
to the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York to face Federal felon in
possession of a firearm
charges mailed a letter from
MDC Brooklyn seeking to fire
his lawyer and get a new
one.
On March 6
he was brought before SDNY
Judge Jed S. Rakoff for
arraignment. Inner City Press
was present in the courtroom
but was asked to leave, so
that attorney client relations
could be discussed under
seal.
In the
closed door session, he
withdrew is request for change
of counsel, without prejudice
to renewing it in the next
three weeks.
Things are
moving fast: trial was set for
June 4.
The case is
