SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Jan 6 – A man charged with
threatening violence against
his Probation officer and the
Federal judge who sentenced
him was sentenced again on
January 6, this time to 18
months.
He said he
would like to serve it in
MDC-Brooklyn, which nearly all
inmates say they want out of.
The difference, he said, is
that he would serve his time
in MDC's "cadre," which he
said is more laid back. His
defense lawyer seemed to say
that those in cadre can clear
the outside of the MDC.
U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Jennifer H. Rearden
expressed some surprise at the
designation request but said
she would make the
recommendation.
Inner City
Press was the only media in
the courtroom and decided to
report this counter-intuitive
request, and this, from BOP:
"Individuals designated to
serve their sentence at MDC
Brooklyn are housed separately
from the other MDC Brooklyn
inmates, on their own
dedicated floor in a
“dormitory style” housing unit
in MDC’s “East” building. The
designated population are
sometimes referenced as “cadre
inmates,” or part of the “work
cadre,” and many are
authorized to perform work
outside the secure confines of
the facility."
This case
is USA v. Padilla, 1:18-cr-454
