COURTROOM EXCLUSIVE, July
16 - In the U.S.
District Court for the Southern
District of New York on November
2, three defendants in a
Colombian narco-trafficking case
were brought before Judge
Gregory H. Woods. Inner City
Press was there, the only media
in the courtroom.
Once the
defendants were placed in the
jury box, each with a US
Marshal behind him, the
prosecutor said their drugs
and weapons conspiracy
involved not only Colombia and
Ecuador but also Austria;
trading of cocaine for weapons
including hand grenades were
described.
The three
defense lawyers agreed that
they would need sixty days or
more to review discovery. The
next conference was set for
February 7, 2023 at 11 am,
with the possibility of
adjourning if review of
discovery in the MDC proves
still difficult.
Jump cut to July
16 when Jose Walter Hernandez
Lozano's lawyer wrote it
asking for a sentence of 5
years. Sentencing is set for
July 26 at 10 am
The case is US v.
Rodriguez Tapia, 22-cr-532
(Woods)
