COURTHOUSE,
April 13 – A 71-year-old man
with an IQ of 65 is up for
sentencing on April 14 for
shooting a gun in the air, as
a felon. His lawyer is asking
for 18 months, citing PTSD and
other health problems.
His
sentencing will be by U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Jed S. Rakoff, whose
proceedings Inner City Press
often covers.
The defense
includes a report from Doctor
Paradis, who quotes him that
while he is proud of the
apartment he obtained through
the bureaucracy after being in
the shelter system, he was
"frightened by the presence of
young men in his neighborhood
who tormented him."
Then the
US Attorney's Office wrote in
asking for 52 months in
prison.
The case
is USA v. Moore, 1:25-cr-598
(Rakoff)
