Man Found Guilty For Gun as Fled Police in the South Bronx Wants Release from BOP Custody

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 4 – A man is on trial charged with having a gun as he ran from police in the South Bronx, after having previously been convicted of a felony. Inner City Press went to cover the trial on September 19.

NYPD Officer Washington narrated her and her partner's body cam video as they drove the wrong way on East 140th Street by Brook Avenue, chasing the defendant. Then, video a school yard, with a gun on the ground. The arrest, on shaky cam.

As has happened in many other U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York after the Supreme Court's Bruen decision, a motion to dismiss on Second Amendment grounds was made, back in March - and was denied.

On September 20, the trial got into DNA. Thread

On September 23, the (guilty) verdict, thread:

In gun case, there's a note... Counsel, family and US Marshals enter. There is a verdict. Drum roll...

Jury entering! Judge: Do you have the verdict sheet? Foreperson: We didn't see one. Judge: Go back into the jury room, we'll send another one in

They're back. Judge: Have you reached a verdict? Foreperson:

Yes. Judge: How do you find?

Foreperson: Guilty...

Sentencing was set for December 17 at 2 pm.

On December 4, Grayson's lawyer wrote in asking for a "below-Guidelines sentence resulting in his release from BOP custody."

The case is US v. Grayson, 23-cr-614 (Rochon)
