SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Nov 3 – Richard Schneider got
a light nine month sentence
for child pornography in 2022.
On August
30, 2023 he was back in front
of U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Robert W.
Lehrburger on new, similar
charges. Inner City Press was
there, the only media in the
SDNY Mag court. Thread:
OK - now at US v
Richard Schneider, call him
short eyes, US wants to detain
him quoting him wanting to
emigrate to Malta, Morocco or
Portugal.
He's been
convicted of this before and
is asking to be released
Schneider's defense seems to
be his use of crystal meth.
Also, that he has a cat to
take care of.
The charged
conduct carries a ten year
mandatory minimum.
Schneider argues he did it
because no treatment while in
halfway house.
The argument at
first seemed to be working -
judge mused he might find it
less dangerous to leave him
out of jail, with treatment,
than detained without - but
now orders detention.
Jump cut to
November 3, 2025 when the
Federal Defenders wrote in
asking for the mandatory
minimum sentence of 10 years,
saying Schneider is now 63
years old and in poor health.
The new case is
US v. Schneider, 25-cr-275
(Torres)
The earlier now
VOSR case is US v. Schneider,
20-cr-672 (Torres)
