Family Charged With Embezzling $17 Million
Sanjay Asks More Time But No More

SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Feb 28 – Four members of the
LaForest family were charged
with embezzling $17 million
from an electrical contracting
company.
On January 11, 2022 U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge Colleen McMahon
held a conference. Inner City
Press covered it.
Judge
McMahon asked about defense
motions.
Reference was
made to the Secret Service
lab.
Jump cut to July
13, 2023. After pleas, on July
13 Judge McMahon imposed
sentenced in the case. 78
months for Sabitri LaForest
and 55 months for Garry
LaForest.
On February 26,
2024, Sanjay LaForest asked
for a sentence of time served,
citing a "disturbing
upbringing... his father had a
terrible temper."
On April 4, the
US Attorney's Office requested
21 months for Tantiana
LaForest, and 15 months for
Sanjay.
On June 3, Sanjay
got six months: "Minute Entry
for proceedings held before
Judge Colleen
McMahon:Sentencing held on
6/3/2024 for Sanjay Laforest
(4) Count 2. Defendant Sanjay
Laforest is sentenced to a SIX
(6) MONTHS term of
imprisonment. Defendant
is to surrender for service of
his sentence, to the facility
designated by the BOP, before
2:00 p.m., on January 6, 2025.
Defendant must make
restitution in the total
amount of $352,730.58, payable
to the Clerk of the Court
(SDNY), for disbursement to
the victim "Atlas Acon
Electric."
January 6 was
extended to April 6, 2025.
Jump cut again,
to January 31, 2025, docketed:
"I represent the
aforementioned defendant,
Sanjay LaForest. Mr. Laforest
was sentenced to six months
incarceration and is currently
due to surrender on April 6,
2025. Mr. Laforest is
requesting another
postponement to surrender. He
is respectfully requesting to
surrender on August 8, 2025..
Mr. Laforest is the project
manager and director of a new
restaurant. It will not open
until April of 2025.
ENDORSEMENT: There will be no
more extensions, whether the
government consents or not.

So surrender is
still set for April 6, as of
February 28.
Tatiana LaForest
was sentenced to 15 months and
restitution of $1,117,712.50.
