SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 12 –
Lorenzo
Torres pled
guilty to
fentanyl
distribution -
five kilograms
in weight,
after previous
arrests and
convictions.
On January 12,
2023 U.S.
District Court
for the
Southern
District of
New York Judge
Lewis A.
Kaplan held
Torres'
sentencing.
Inner City
Press managed
to cover it.
The US
Attorney's
Office
sentencing
memorandum
recounts
Torres'
criminal
history,
including
convictions in
Arizona in
2003 and in
California
(under another
name) in 2017.
It quotes from
Probation's
PSR:
"in
speaking with
his
girlfriend,
she was unsure
why he would
be involved in
the instant
offense and
disclaimed
that they were
suffering from
significant
financial
hardships.
Torres just
does not
appear to have
regard for the
laws of this
country."
Judge Kaplan,
called Torres'
conduct brazen
but also
noting his
health
conditions,
sentencing him
to 120 months,
noting that in
other
circumstance,
he might have
gone lower. He
recommended
BOP's medical
facility in
Springfield,
Missouri.
Afterward,
defense
counsel told
Torres they
would set up a
video call
next week, and
confirmed to
him he had
been sentenced
to ten years.
He was led out
by the U.S.
Marshals.
The
case is US v.
Torres,
21-cr-466
