After Indicted Former Judge Dies Amid Arrest Alleged Briber Gets Trial Pushed to June

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Feb 9 – Amid expectation of NYC corruption indictments from and at the Southern District of New York, on September 24 suburban corruption came to the fore, and how.

Stewart Rosenwasser, a former county judge and senior-level prosecutor in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, was indicted and charged with accepting $63, 000 in bribes from Mout'z Soudani to investigate and prosecute his sister and nephew in a $1.9 million theft and embezzlement case.

When the FBI showed up at this door, there was reportedly an exchange of gunfire, and suicide by Rosenwasser. It's a developing story, but the (43 page) indictment is on Patreon here.

Later on September 24, Soudani was freed on $1 million bond, 7 page bond document on Patreon here.

On February 9, 2026 his trial was pushed back: "ORDER granting in part and denying in part [60] LETTER MOTION as to Mout'z Soudani (2): Mr. Wallenstein having informed the Court that his client who is scheduled for trial on 4/13/26 before Judge Roman did not enter a plea as expected and that Mr. Wallenstein is therefore unavailable to try to this case on 4/6/26 as previously scheduled, the Court approves the parties' proposed schedule, except that motions in limine will be due 5/1/26, and opposition thereto will be due 5/8/26. The parties' proposed schedule did not give the Court sufficient time to consider the motions. (If the parties want to agree to an earlier schedule (i.e., before Mr. Wallenstein's trial) they may do so.) The time between now and the new trial date of 6/10/26 is hereby excluded under the Speedy Trial Act in the interests of justice. The ends of justice served by the exclusion outweigh the best interests of the public and the defendant in a speedy trial because it will ensure defense counsel's availability and permit him to prepare for trial.. (Signed by Judge Cathy Seibel on 2/9/26) (Seibel, Cathy)

The case is US v. Rosenwasser, et al., 7:24-cr-555 (Seibel)
