For Multiple Armed Carjackings Defendant Gets 10 Years As Cited Mental Issues in MDC

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Dec 17 –  A defendant was up for sentencing for armed carjackings before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge George B. Daniels on December 17. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the courtroom, thread:

Defense: He has PTSD and has been in the SHU for most of his 30 months in MDC Brooklyn. We request a total sentence of 5 years.

Judge: Does the US have any evidence who led this carjacking crew?

AUSA: This defendant was the most active: 8 carjackings.  AUSA: He brandished a firearm in five of the carjackings.

Defense: He has a strong support network both here and in the Dominican Republic.

Defendant: With all due respect, I have shown loyalty to the US. Judge: Is he likely to be removed from the US?

AUSA: I am not aware if there is an immigration hold on him. Judge: His mental health issues warrant some consideration... I sentence you to 10 years

The case is USA v. Felix-Aracena, 1:21-cr-21 (Daniels)
