Dec 17 – A defendant was
up for sentencing for armed
carjackings before U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Judge George B. Daniels on
December 17. Inner City Press
was there, the only media in
the courtroom, thread:
Defense: He has
PTSD and has been in the SHU
for most of his 30 months in
MDC Brooklyn. We request a
total sentence of 5 years.
Judge: Does the
US have any evidence who led
this carjacking crew?
AUSA: This
defendant was the most active:
8 carjackings. AUSA: He
brandished a firearm in five
of the carjackings.
Defense: He has a
strong support network both
here and in the Dominican
Republic.
Defendant:
With all due respect, I have
shown loyalty to the US.
Judge: Is he likely to be
removed from the US?
AUSA: I am not
aware if there is an
immigration hold on him.
Judge: His mental health
issues warrant some
consideration... I sentence
you to 10 years
