SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Aug 29 – A defendant charged
with a scheme to steal
another's identity to rent an
apartment, leaving rent unpaid
but falsely using it to try to
modify conditions of pre-trial
release was brought by US
Marshals before U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York
Magistrate Judge Stewart D.
Aaron on August 29. Inner City
Press was there, the only
media in the SDNY Mag court.
The
unsealed complaint describes
the defendant using a fake
letter from Chase Bank, and
telling that landlord that
Victim-1 "said she was doing
to call you guys."
She didn't. Two
co-defendants were released,
but this third one was
detained on consent.
In September, the
case was indicted and assigned
to District Judge Victor
Marrero. On September 11, a
proposed protective order was
filed.
The case
is now US v. Beltre, et al.,
24-cr-529 (Marrero)
