SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Oct 2 – Manhattan Federal
prosecutors charged Ghislaine
Barrientos on October 2 with
conspiracy to commit honest
services fraud & to
distribute controlled
substances, and false
statements as part of a scheme
to smuggle narcotics into
Rikers Island jail.
Inner City
Press was the only media at
the presentment of Ghislaine
Barrientos that afternoon at
4:30 pm. Thread:
US Marshals bring
her in. She has pink hair and
now, a Federal Defender. Judge
Sarah Neburn: Time of
arrest?
AUSA: 6 am.
Judge: You are charged in 3
counts, false statements,
narcotics and honest services
wire fraud. AUSA:
We agree on release on $50,000
bond, urinalysis. We disagree
on home detention - to ensure
the safety of the
community
AUSA:
Beyond the Complaint, the
defendant was looking for a
source of fentanyl, delivered
by Uber. She didn't tell DOC
she worked in a convenience
store
Federal Defender:
This was a niche offense. She
no longer works in Rikers.
Judge: Did she work at the
convenience store? FD: Yes, no
more. Judge: Neither a curfew
nor homw detention is needed,
I find
Judge: You'll be
released today on your own
signature. Adjourned.
The case is
USA v. Barrientos,
1:24-mj- (Netburn)
