MAG COURT EXCLUSIVE,
Oct 11 – A man
charged with burning up six
cars in The Bronx in August,
and setting fire to an
apartment building sending a
two-year-old to the hospital
was presented on October 11
before U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York Magistrate Judge Robert
W. Lehrburger. Inner City
Press was there, the only
media in the SDNY Mag
court.
The
defendant's retained lawyer
said he turned himself into a
hospital for mental evaluation
after the fires, and that he
should be released. The AUSA
asked for detention, but did
answer about conditions before
Judge Lehrburger went into the
robing room.
Inner City
Press looked up the crime on
local TV news, which has
interviewed two men whose cars
were entirely destroyed, with
only liability insurance in
place, and a woman who runs a
restaurant facing the scene of
the blaze, which took place on
East 174th Street near
Rosedale Avenue in Soundview.
Apparently none were
contacted.
Judge
Lehrburger emerged and
released him on $50,000
unsecured bond, with the
parents as third part
custodians.
The case
is USA v. Peters,
24-mj-3145 (Lehrburger)
