SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Dec 18 – A man who pled
guilty to selling cocaine out
of his Harlem barber shop was
up for sentencing on December
18 before U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of
New York Chief Judge Laura
Taylor Swain. Inner City Press
covered it. Thread:
Defendant got a
cell phone video out of MDC
which, the prosecutor says,
targeted a person as a
cooperator. The sentencing
memo has a photo, and says he
"used a contraband cellphone
to make a video warning others
of a particular individual,
whom the defendant had
concluded was a cooperating
witness and whom he referred
to as a 'snitch.'"
Judge: The
guideline is 57 to 71 months.
He sold kilo-quantities of
cocaine from 2 sources; he
says he became a gambling
addict during the pandemic. He
sold cocaine while out on
bail.
Judge: He
had a barber shop which cut
poor kids' hair for free. He
also trafficked drugs from
there. The store has been
closed... Please
stand. I will vary
downward. I sentence you to 42
months in prison...
The case is
USA v. Romero, 1:23-cr-70
(Swain)
