SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
Dec 17 – A defendant charged
with two armed robberies in
The Bronx was presented before
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Katharine H.
Parker on December 17. Inner
City Press was there, the only
media in the SDNY Mag
court.
While his
co-defendant had been detained
on consent, this defendant has
voluntarily come and
surrendered at 500 Pearl
Street. He has family members
including his mother in the
gallery. What the prosecutor
called a knife in his hand
during the robbery, defense
counsel said may have been
simply "dark metal."
Accordingly, he was released
on $50,000 bond.
But in April 2025
he was ordered detained, and
he pled guilty in September,
set to be sentenced on
December 23.
On December 3
Almanzar was indicted, his
case assigned to Chief Judge
Laura Taylor Swain. On
December 4 the US Attorney's
Office wrote in to ask if the
two cases should be handled by
the same judge.
On December 17
the US Attorney's Office wrote
in to Judge Buchwald asking
for 37 months on McDuffie on
December 23.
This case
is USA v. Almanzar,
1:25-cr-665 (Swain)
the
co-defendant's is US v.
McDuffie, 25-cr-408 (Buchwald)
