SDNY
COURTHOUSE,
April 2 –A man from El
Salvador who has been in the
US since 2008 was detained by
ICE in Hempstead, New York.
On April 2
he filed a habeas corpus
petition in the US District
Court for the Southern
District of New York, where
Inner City Press found
it.
The filing
says that he was "standing in
a parking lot outside his home
in Hempstead when ICE agents
stopped him for no reason
other than his race." He
acknowledges a misdemeanor DUI
conviction, and a dismissed
and sealed "criminal mischief"
charge in 2024.
The case
was assigned to Judge Lewis A.
Kaplan.
This case is M.C.
v. Genalo, et al.,
1:26-cv-2717 (Kaplan)
