Charged with Stealing Cars and Defrauding with CarFax Another Defendant Bailed in SDNY

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 20 – In a multi-defendant car theft and fraud case, differnt bail packages were offered on November 13 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Court. Inner City Press was there, the only media, and tweeted.

One defendant was freed on a $250,000 unsecured bond. Another was offered $100,000 bond, but was told the GPS could not be installed until Monday and so he would stay detained.   Another co-defendant consented to detention, his lawyer remarked, because he had an outstanding murder charge.

The lead defendant was released on a $300,000 unsecured bond. The case was still sealed, pending a release the follow day. Cited were CarFax and switched VIN numbers on cars.

On November 20 another co-defendant, Rojas Cruz, was presented and released on $100,000 unsecured bond, with the condition he not drive any car not disclosed to Pre-Trial Services, and not speak with any co-defendant other than his father.

The case is USA v. Lopez Marte, et al., 1:25-mj-3584 (Parker / Tarnofsky)
